An ApplicationJDG 2:7,10-11 is a sobering reminder of the need for intentional educational paradigms that pass on a faith in God to the next generation. The USA as a whole is a modern text-book example, too. Lacking extreme intentionality, this story reminds us in one generation the culture can die. When they told Joshua they wouldn't abandon God (like in JOS 24:21) they were more or less being serious. But their actions were speaking louder than their words, and their kids were of course listening.

Connect the DotsWe'd think they were sick of hearing DT 7:3-5 by now, but JDG 3:5-6 reminds us that just because we think we know God's will, or we have posession of God's word, doesn't mean we're prepared to obey it. And man, did the Israelites loose out big time for their choices. The psalmist will summarize great, later, in PS 84:10. Centuries later, God will lament to Hosea in HOS 13:6. / Compare JDG 3:2 to ISA 54:16.
